"Official" Origami Bee Rules
If you've ever participated in a Scripps Spelling Bee or a National Geographic Geography Bee, you know most bees have lots of rules. Our Origami Bee has just two.
1) Learn some origami.
2) Have fun.
Like other bees, our bee will be held in rounds. For the first three rounds, one of the figures found on the "Origami Figures Likely to be in the Bee" page will be called out. Contestants will have 10 minutes to create the figure. Judges will award between one and three points for each completed figure, based on the quality of the craftsmanship. Didn't remember how to make that figure? Unlike other bees, you get to stay in for the next round!
The fourth round will be an "open" round. You are free to make any figure you know. Again, judges will award between one and three points. This round will last for 10 minutes.
The fifth, and final, round will be a group figure. We will use a randomizer program to pick groups. Your group will have 20 minutes to create an original origami figure. You will present your figure to a judge, explaining what you have created, what it's called, what it's purpose is, etc. The judge will award betwen one and five points for this creation, based on originality and creativing thinking.
Your group score will be added with your individual scores to determine the Top Three Origami Masters. (If any tiebreakers are necessary, judges will assign one more figure for contestants.)
The Top Three Origami Masters will receive an origami book to take home with them. Everyone else....gets something, too! Sign up for the bee so that you can find out what it is!
