- Origami Bee Directions and Rules
Initial Activity: 10-15 minutes
The initial activity may begin with a brief history of origami and then just letting them explore the materials available to them to create origami figures. In this time, allow them to think of figures they would like to create and what they will need to accomplish them. Direct them to the list of possible shapes for the Origami Bee. Challenge them to design a figure of their own and to create a tutorial for it as well. Let their interests lead them to the figures they will create. Encourage them to watch each other as well as the tutorials.
Practice Session: 30-45 minutes
This session is for students to CREATE!!
Encourage them to follow the directions, take their time, and have fun!!
Some students will want to recreate the same shape multiple times while others may want to try many different ones.
If they are entering the Bee, make sure they know which figures are expected to be created.

Ways to Extend to Higher Level Thinking:
- Have students design a figure themselves
- Have them create a tutorial for the figure using a digital tool of choice
- Can the figure be useful? Like an instrument, a boat, a box, and many more. http://www.dogonews.com/2014/3/19/origami-inspired-paper-microscope-may-help-save-thousands-of-lives
